Hipparcos red stars in the HpV_T2 and V I_C systems
For Hipparcos M, S, and C spectral type stars, we provide calibratedinstantaneous (epoch) Cousins V - I color indices using newly derivedHpV_T2 photometry. Three new sets of ground-based Cousins V I data havebeen obtained for more than 170 carbon and red M giants. These datasetsin combination with the published sources of V I photometry served toobtain the calibration curves linking Hipparcos/Tycho Hp-V_T2 with theCousins V - I index. In total, 321 carbon stars and 4464 M- and S-typestars have new V - I indices. The standard error of the mean V - I isabout 0.1 mag or better down to Hp~9 although it deteriorates rapidly atfainter magnitudes. These V - I indices can be used to verify thepublished Hipparcos V - I color indices. Thus, we have identified ahandful of new cases where, instead of the real target, a random fieldstar has been observed. A considerable fraction of the DMSA/C and DMSA/Vsolutions for red stars appear not to be warranted. Most likely suchspurious solutions may originate from usage of a heavily biased color inthe astrometric processing.Based on observations from the Hipparcos astrometric satellite operatedby the European Space Agency (ESA 1997).}\fnmsep\thanks{Table 7 is onlyavailable in electronic form at the CDS via anonymous ftp tocdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (130.79.128.5) or viahttp://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/cgi-bin/qcat?J/A+A/397/997

The ATCA/VLA OH 1612 MHz survey. I. Observations of the galactic bulge Region
We present observations of the region between |l| <= 10^{\circ}$ and|b| <= 3^{\circ}$ in the OH 1612.231 MHz line, taken in 1993 Octoberand November with the Australia Telescope Compact Array. The region wassystematically searched for OH/IR stars and was covered completely with539 pointing centres separated by 30 arcmin. The size of the datasetcalls for a special reduction technique that is fast, reliable andminimizes the output (positions and velocities of possible stars only).Having developed such a reduction method we found 307 OH masing objects,145 of which are new detections. Out of these, 245 have a standarddouble-peaked spectral profile, 58 a single-peaked profile and 4 havenonstandard or irregular profiles. In this article we analyse the datastatistically and give classifications and identifications with knownsources where possible. The astrophysical, kinematical, morphologicaland dynamical properties of subsets of the data will be addressed infuture articles. These observations are part of a larger survey, covering |l| <= 45^{\circ}$ and |b| <= 3^{\circ}$, with theAustralia Telescope Compact Array and the Very Large Array. The table is also available viaanonymous ftp (130.79.128.5) or through the World Wide Web(http://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/Abstract.html). SANTIAGO 91, a right ascension catalogue of 3387 stars (equinox J2000).
The positions in right ascension of 3387 stars belonging to the Santiago67 Catalogue, observed with the Repsold Meridian Circle at Cerro Calan,National Astronomical Observatory, during the period 1989 to 1994, aregiven. The average mean square error of a position, for the wholeCatalogue, is +/-0.009 s. The mean epoch of the catalogue is 1991.84.
